i've had a cafe press shop for quite a while, not a single sale. then again i'm no good at advertising. either way it's been a waste of time to even add new products for me.
    • I have heard of so many artists with cafe press stores who don't sell anything.
      :(

and i also know many artist who do sell.

i am NOT accusing anyone of anything but..... when you set up your shop you do need to advertise to bring in customers....

but if you do that and its still not working, i am not sure what to say.

but i have noticed that when i advertise a lot i get more visitors and sales

anyway good luck to all of you.... keep it up and going
        • It is all about advertising. People can't buy it if they don't know its there.... Of course, that is also the most time consuming part ;o> . Eventually I want to use cafe press, but first I have to have images that will work well that way. Some day........... Good luck to everyone with their holiday sales. I'm busy working on commissions.

          • Tamu,

At present I don't have time to set up a cafe press store, even if I wanted to.
            ;)

But, since you brought up advertising:

How do you go about advertising?
            :)

well it was only a suggestion, thats all i was making. no one has to do anything they dont want.

submitting website to search engine on a continual basis...at least once a week to insure placement.

              to have meta tags.

pass out fliers, to have a blog, sign blogs, guest books.... there is a certain amount of leg, i mean finger work, unless one can afford to pay someone to do it for them. but you have to submit your site constantly to stay on top and have appropriate keywords in search engines and meta tags.

hmm...you gave me a thought...I could sign up to every single cat lover forum and make my signature a link to my cafepress store! HA! =D

HELLO KILKY... thats EXACTLY what I used to do all the time.... i mean as artist we rather be painting.... BUT if we want to be SEEN thats what we must do.... its sort of like running into the crowded stadium and waving a flag and jumping up and down in front of everyones face ....

i used to spend about 3 hours a week doing that. it was NOT fun... but i got sales... and i think my work is 10x better than what it was say 4 or 5 years ago...i have a long way to go for my taste, but i was able to find people who liked my work.... and it was a lot of judaic art... and the jewish population is a drop in the bucket compared to everyone else.... but what i did worked.

along with submitting to websites, i would sign guest books, not using my email addy but my website addy.

there is a lot of competition out there... but if you can be seen and get a following the rest would be word of mouth.

its a dirty job but if we want to be able to paint and let it help us make a livelihood its what we gots ta do!

I don't sell much, although I did sell a zen calendar last week.

They have a froogle feed and it is one more way to advertise. They also started an image tagging system and, hopefully, will help bring in more buyers from keyword searches.
