I just finished my first 6 attempts at ACEOs and have put a couple of my favorites up in the image gallery. The rest of them (even my first attempts and experiments in media) are in my own image gallery.
I know this is "artists on ebay", but I wanted opinions on which do you think is a better venue for selling? ebay or esty? I can't very well list them on both at the same time. I'm considering esty for the first attempts because, I'll probably start them at 50 cents, 10 for the esty fee and 39 for the stamp. The better ones, however, and the ones I make in the future, as I'm getting better the more I play with this new format, (the progress in these six is pretty obvious), I'm hoping to make a bit more off of them. I don't know if esty will provide enough exposure, or if ebay is an over saturated market?
Input please?

Thu, January 26, 2006 - 7:28 AMI haven't had much luck with aceos on etsy.
You might try them here first:
www.art-cards.org/auction
It's free.

Thu, January 26, 2006 - 8:23 AMThanks. Though I noticed, almost none of the cards there seem to be getting any bids at all. -

Re: ACEOs
Fri, January 27, 2006 - 6:40 AMThat's true, but it's also true of eBay. If you look at the thousands of ACEOs there, most don't have bids. I have bids on three pieces on art-cards. Nothing on eBay. I had two close yesterday that didn't sell. Worse case, you get a little more visibility by being on another venue and it doesn't cost you anything.

Fri, January 27, 2006 - 7:06 AM*nods* I listed half of them on art-cards and half on ebay.

Re: ACEOs
Fri, January 27, 2006 - 3:37 PMsomeone may have said this before, but I think it's important: amount of bids/sales online has more to do with how well you market than where you sell. If people who like your stuff can't find it to buy it, it doesn't matter where/how you sell it. If they don't know it exists, it doesn't matter if you list it at all. Good luck!! -

Re: ACEOs
Mon, January 30, 2006 - 8:41 AMSo, how would you advise going about "advertising?" Obviously there's things like tribes and blogs that you can post on, which is something, but beside filling out a really good item description on ebay, how else would you advise getting attention to your art?
Note: The art-cards.org auctions all ended with no bids and very few views, at 50 cents, while the ebay cards all have a few views and a few bids (the little black and white unicorn is even up to $5.00 from 75 cents) so, looks like I'll be sticking to ebay probably. -

Re: ACEOs
Tue, January 31, 2006 - 2:46 PMdo anything and everything that can get your work seen. but don't spam; bring up your work subtley or in appropriate situations. some ideas:
-online stuff: tribes, blogs, mailing lists, signature files, your website or profile. mention your product and how to get it everywhere appropriate.
-business cards, stickers, other stuff with your business name, url, etc: include them with everything you sell, give them to everyone you meet who you think might be interested, put them in with the packages of stuff you sell
-display your art on a regular basis: make pins out of your cards and stick them on your jacket or bag, put stuff up at your house, ask about displaying your art in local businesses you frequent (like cafes)
-create reasons for people to see you as an artist: host a workshop teaching people techniques for making ACEOs, volunteer to help kids do crafts--their parents may ask about what other art you do, get interviewed by a local paper
-craft fairs, holiday bizarres, local craft shops, concerts, festivals, and other offline places may be good venues to sell from
-make t-shirts featuring your art. get all your friends to wear them.
-sell your stuff in innovative ways: sets of cards, grab bag assortments, turn them into a deck of playing cards...
be creative with your marketing just as you are with your art. everything I've read and experienced about selling goods or services tells me that visiblity to your market is important. since I started being more out there with advertising my services (I don't sell goods, yet), I've gotten a lot more new business. And repeat business, actually. Reminding people I've already sold to is even more lucrative than getting in new ones, but most businesses have to do both.

Re: ACEOs
Wed, March 1, 2006 - 9:46 AMYeah, all on ebay, I had tried the artcardauctions.org or whatever it was, and not only no bids, but no one even really looked at them.
I'm still not getting as much traffic or as many bids as I would like, but I really don't know what else to do about it but keep putting more up.

Thu, March 2, 2006 - 6:07 AMI've sold a few on www.artbyus.com lately. I'm not sure about the ACEO market there overall. It's pretty hit & miss but it is free and everywhere gets you a little more exposure.

Re: ACEOs
Wed, March 8, 2006 - 8:15 AMOw, that's a neat idea to do magnets. How has that been going for you?
Well, When I put my first ones up, I listed some at 99 cents and a couple at 75 cents (they were black and white). Since then, it's been slowly increasing as I see I'm starting my stuff cheaper than almost anyone on ebay. $1.50 is about where I start them now, if I think they're showing good progress from the earlier ones, and my latest I started at $1.99, just because I think it turned out really well.
are your listings under faern on ebay? -
-
Re: ACEOs
Wed, March 8, 2006 - 9:58 AMfaernworks is my seller name-
