They do indeed. Do you have to belong to some *special* group to make them or what? I don't really know that much about them. -
-
Unsu...
get in touch with Eliza at art-cards.org she is the one who started the "group" so to use those call letters.
i think its a great idea...i had been making magnet art... didnt think to just not laminate them and sell as art.
anyway i am working on some of them myself.
i enjoy working small and doing line art....
seems they are doing better than larger ones people get about the same bids for.

You are supposed to join the eBay ACEO group:
groups.ebay.com/forum.jspa
I have a few up:

I was excited to list my ghost painting :-)

they do very well... One of my ACEO's the other week went for $100.99 ... took a month or two to get my ACEO's up higher, when I started they were selling for like... 5 bucks... now it's not odd to see mine going for 20, 30, sometimes even 70+ dollars... and when I first started selling just regular art (Before I heard of ACEO's) I couldn't sell a darn thing!... So I'm quite pleased at this ACEO thing. I highly recommend trying it out!

I just put four up today.
cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll
I am new to the e-bay seen. I have five small painting winding down in auction. Not looking good. Put four ACEO works up today. I like working small. Let you all know what happens.

Thank you for that info and congratulations on your sales :-). I suspected it was like the rest of eBay and you had to build up a following. I have only been selling them for a couple weeks. Some don't sell, a lot go for the opening but some bid up (my highest to day is $24.50).
A new auction site is opening up next week just for ACEOs. If you sign up for www.art-cards.org updates, they will send out an announcement. Although it sounds like you do so well on eBay, you wouldn't want to bother with trying a new venue.

Poxodd... your post is no good without a link to your auctions! :-)

ok fine... here's a link to my auctions for this week ;)
search.ebay.com/poxodd_W0Q...Z1QQfromZR8
I usally do 10 aceo's a week but this week I only did 5 cause I was out on vacation.
I also put "poxodd" in all my subject lines so anyone searching for me only has to type in my name to find my artwork on ebay.

Art Cards, Editions and Originals
I signed up, since I paint small anyway I figure I can paint even smaller! I just don't know where they get the paper from. Do you have it cut down or do you buy it already 3.5 x 2.5? -
-
i think it's bristol- you have to cut it down...
i think i wanna try this game too
if i could only think that small...
-
Unsu...
I've been cutting my own from leftover matboard. There is a site that sells the stock:
www.b-muse.com/ATC-ARt-supplies.htm -
-
really - mattboard?
does it seem a little spnogy when you paint on it? -
-
Unsu...
I am using liquitex high-viscosity acrylics on them and they work just fine. I incorporate the idea of the color of the matboard into the piece. The flowers are done on green matboard, the moonlit seascapes on black.
I have gesso'd them first, which also worked fine.
For the coating, I have varnish but I have been using the spray because it gives it just a very light coating (the same as I do when I paint with acylics). Do you think a brush on varnish would be better?
Laura -
-
no laura- not necessarily better- i was curious how the mattbaord would take it cause i have varnish and i have mod podge- i 'avoid' the whole aerosol spray thing, i also apreciate a thick coating- well, there's a kind of texture created that i like... i have been varnishing drawings on wood- but that's really slick- totally different feeling...
and thanks so much for that link- those gameboard pieces are intriguing (sp?)

Oooh thank you Laura! I just bought a pack of blank aceos. I'm lazy and can't cut a straight line to save my life. Of course I could buy a paper cutter...
Thank you again! -
-
Unsu...
Sure :-). They weren't available when I cut mine or I would have just done that too (I'm sure I will when I run out, although some people have said that framing shops will give you matboard scraps for free).

So on the ACEO site I saw a "tutorial" for using playing cards to paint on. I ran out and bought myself a deck. Just thought I'd pass that on in case you guys missed it. That's a hell of a lot cheaper than anything else! -
-
This is the maximum depth. Additional responses will not be threaded.i have been playing withb those too- haven't come up with much... i made four magnets though... i am still sealing them- i will post soon, well tomorrow most likely...

Unsu...
I managed to paint my first ACEO on a playing card tonight! Mind you it's of a nun and I truly can't paint a human to save my life, but I threw in a cat so it doesn't look too bad. haha!
How are you making the magnets? I have two random small pieces of wood that I've been planning on painting on and making into magnets. Just glueing little round magnets to the back, or something completely different? -
-
well- you need realy good magnets- strong ones- if you email crafter's choice i believe they will send a sample kit- that's what i am using for 3 d type magnets (shells and stuff) and you need a really high tack cement- like e600 or something od the sort- goop glue in the tube works too- they are self leveling- so be careful- it can get away from you if you use too much.
now for the flat magnets- i use high tack magnet sheets from (them too)
they make something called magnetic canvas- but there's no tack- so you can work right on the plastic coating- these you have to cut yourself.
there are some bussiness card size magnets already cut at staples and shit like that- BUT THEY SUCK- DO NOT BUY THEM if you are putting anything more that thin paper on them they don't stck to the fridge very well- i made one w/ canvas and it won't hold anything.
www.save-on-crafts.com/refmagbutmag.html
if you get their number and call them i believe they will send samples for free- i got some- but like a year ago-
tell them you have heard they are the best magnet and i bet they do it!
you'll get some button magnets in all different sizes, and some strip magnets, and some bar magnets (my favorite for objects)
woohoo- i found their ## for you!!!

now you help me figure out how to post these little drawings and paintings i did...
mmmmk??
scanning soo... -

blech- those glues- are
E6000
and
GOOP- household contact adhesive and sealant
both stinky and toxic
but they work sooo good- i covered a whole terra cotta pot w/ amethyst once with this shit! -
-
my magnet cards-
louvre.tribe.net/tribe/upl...d3d2af4c12
louvre.tribe.net/tribe/upl...6d40ac8e25
all i have left to do with them is coat them.
i haven't listed any of these type of things before- not sure if i can list as an aceo if it's a magnet...
and i have to join the ebay group, no?
ideas please... -
-
the only requirement for ACEO's is that they are 2.5" X 3.5" so if your magnets are that size they can totally be listed as an ACEO and no one will complain.
As far as thickness goes technically there is no requirement but if it's thicker than a playing card or heavy paper keep in mind a lot of art card collectors like to store their ACEOs in binders with those sheets that hold 9 cards (you know those things that baseball card collectors would store thier cards in), if it is too thick to fit in one of those you'll at least want to say so in your auction.

Those are really cute! I believe if it's the aceo size, then you can sell it as an aceo. Hell I've seen them with shit all over, feathers, braided trim, etc, that make the overal size of the card a lot larger than 2.5x3.5. =D
Thank you for all the information above, I'll definitely give that place a call..
After reading this thread, I think you do have to join the group, or contact the girl who runs the aceo website. She sent me a link to their gallery to create my own to display the cards. Haven't done that yet since I've only painted one so far.
Ok going to head outside to let the kids run amok and try to paint some more aceo's.
Oh, what help did you need to post images? -
-
key words... hmrmm - - - there was something else i was thinking of--- oh yeah- it wasn't an aceo question... silly me...
thanks about the cuteness- i can't get away from snails for some reason...
-
Actually I don't think you really HAVE to join the group... BUT it's a good idea to, it's more free advertizing for you... I reccomend joining the eBay aceo group (in eBay communities) most of all because they have a weekly "new listings" post which a lot of the collectors of art cards seem to look at regularly... plus they have loads of good info about art card related stuff.
-poxodd- -

thanks, good idea!
(- i tried the above link and it didn't work right for me- just went around to login again... ) -
-
i remember my question...
what do you think i should start the bidding for my magnets at- ?- -
-
well- i did this grouping...
search.ebay.com/aceo-faern_W0QQfromZR41
but- i didn't do the picture thing right- i didn't realize they charged for the image by the listing...
do you think i should revise and add that in?
i was trying to keep my costs down- but that might hinder me...
